Preliminary task: Front cover/Contents page

For our Preliminary task we had to create a student based music magazine I have decided to use this image as she fits the genera of the magazine i am going to make.

I thought overall the layout and the colors of the font work well together not being too hard on the eyes yet standing out to the audience.
Here is my contents page were I have used the same image from my front cover as this will help reader find the page number for the article which is linked to this image.

For my con image I decided to use Adobe Photoshop to darken this image. This is because when I took this image I had forgotten to turn down the iso which meant that all the images came out to overexposed and bright.

First attempt useing InDesign

Here is my first attempt using Adobe InDesign. For the font I used Quiff on font size 30 for the mastheads and coverlines. For the names of the bands under the coverlines I used size 18. The colour of the font is pink with a blue border; due to the founts see-through effect it doesn’t really stand out with the image I used or the background.
The actual program of Adobe InDesign was a little tricky to use at first, getting to know all of the controls of all the functions that are on the program. However after been shown all the functions, the program became easier to use. From using this I can see the potential of making better magazine covers being more comfortable with the program.
In my opinion I think the text doesn’t really contrast well with the background as the font has a see- through effect on a white background. There’s not much on the front cover and the stuff on the front cover looks like it’s been thrown together, as it doesn’t really work well together.

First try useing cameras for magazine photo practice

For our preliminary task we had to take photos of people in our class to use on our front cover of our music magazines. This allowed us to get used to all the functions on the cameras.
A medium close up of this photo here, unfortunately the image has come out over exposed which can be seen as the picture has a lot of noise especial in all the darker parts of the image. This may be due to the fact that I forgot to turn the ISO down on the camera.

Another medium close up of the same person but from a different angle. Still has too much noise in the image, due to the ISO being too high. I like this image as the image looks like its been taking from a crane angle. Its also a juxtaposition with her being all nearly dressed in black standing in front of white background on one side and a black curtain on her other side. This suggest the duel personality's which is portrayed in this image.  Another thing I like about this image is that the subject is looking at the camera which can have an effect that the person is looking at us which could either repel people or attract people to the magazine.

Here is another median close up.  I guess this effect would look ok as its like a spot light effect if there wasn't noise in the image due to the image being to over exposed.

An median close up. I like the lighting effect on this image with the Shadow effect. unfortunately when you try to fit the image onto a magazine; the image is too overexposes so the image doesn't look as sharp.

Median close up. As you can see the image is too over exposed which makes the subject have a white face like a ghost.

Overall for my first time useing a camera I don't think ive done that bad. However from doing this, I can see were I wrong so next time I won't make the same mistakes. Like forget to turn the ISO down.
