Final development of my magazine
I have finally made it. Even though all the problems I have faced I have a magazine at last.
Here is my final Question and answer DPS. Ok I have made a pull quote have the text warped round it which looks better on the page then it did before. I made all the images and text boxes have borders going round them so they stand out more on the page. I re-sized the twitter logo to match the Facebook logo so it doesn't look messy. the DPS follows the colour scheme that was used through out my magazine.
Anyways for my finishing touches I had to go onto photo-shop and change the gray background of my front cover image which is on the left. I did this by changing the temperature of the image as you can see on the right. Its a bit orange so I change the temperature too high. I change this again which can be seen on the bottom image and that is the image used on the front cover. With this image I also tidy up my model hair using the magic wand tool on photo-shop to erase the lose hairs and black dots on the image.
My final front page. The image I have used has a nice depth of field look and the way that the model is dressed fits my theme and will also attract my target audience as the model looks young and my audience will be more likely to buy the magazine if they see someone who looks the same age range as them. the colors and the fonts work together and help make the masthead and cover lines stand out with will help attract attention. I have made the masthead go all the way across the page as it stands out more which will grab the audiences attention.
OK onto my content page which I know most of you will be wondering why there only one picture well I don't think I could of put any more picture in without redesigning this whole page again. Plus I like how it is as it is. I have followed the conventions of the top of the pops magazine content as they have there front cover in there content page too. I think helps appeal to the target audience of a younger audience as its a visual thing which will help readers find the articles that attracted them to the magazine in the first place. The font stands out and fits in with the pop theme. The logo is like a brand which attracts my teenage audience as they like branded things. The colors again appeal to my female target audience. I have added a secondary image to my content page as it shows different verity of images in my magazine apart from just having leah. This also makes my magazine gender neutral as I included both female and male pictures in my magazine.

Question and answers questions for my DPS
For my DPS I wanted a question and answer sort of page which is commonly seen in kids pop magazine. which is something which shows that my magazine is supplying the demand for my target audience of what they want to see in magazine.
By doing this I had to create some questions that I had my model who did the photo-shoot answers, as the DPS was about her.
1. How do you feel about your new album and hit single?
2. What are your plans for the future?
3. What inspires you to write music
4. Who are your favorite bands/singers?
5. Where would you most like to preform?
6. Do you enjoy writing music and what songs have you written?
7. Who would you most likely open a live performance for?
Here are her answers:
I choose these questions as they link to music and are relevant to my magazine and link in with other question and answers questions that you see in other music magazine.

Evaluation question plan
Planing for my evaluation questions.
As my evaluation of my magazine have to be done through online methods rather then writing an essa I have a few ideas of what I can use to do my evaluations.
Pixton- is a sight were you can make online comics and ive just found out that I can embed them onto my blog. My idea with using this was to answer the evaluation question ''what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product'' as I can get a comic with two charters talking about the magazine and telling each other the problems they have faced and how they have overcome them.
http://www.pixton.com/uk/
Here is a quite comic I made to get used to the program.
Photobucket- This is a sight were you can upload photos but has a section were you can make your story were it like a timeline/photo montage which I think will be good for the evaluation question ''looking back your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?'' as I can show my progression from were I started to when I finished by the program letting me annotate around the images
http://s793.photobucket.com/
Draw my life- im not going to draw my life but I am going to draw on my white board and record it and them put it on my blog the question ''who would be the audience for your media product'' from doing this I get to draw things which I think will be cool to include on my blog.
Powtoons- is an animated way to present things, its a bit like power point but not. I was going to do the question ''how does your media product represent particular social groups. http://www.powtoon.com/
Youtube- I was going to record something and use you-tube to embed the video on to my blog. the video would consist of my using paper to visuals my evaluation question answer to ''in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products''
Prezi- it was like power point again but on the internet- ''what kind of media institution might distribute your media products and why?'' http://prezi.com/your/
Stupeflix- I want to use stupeflix which is a websight were i can make pictures into videos to answer the question ''how did you attract/ address your audience''

Photoshop skills
BEFORE
This was the image that I used in my DPS. As you can see there is a little bit of flesh showing in the tummy area which will attract the attention of my audience so they won't be looking at the page itself but at this. So I just went on to Photoshop and painted over so it look like her top goes all the way down.
AFTER
You may not be able to see but you cant really tell that I went onto Photoshop at all when you look at the article which is a good thing :3
Making a album for my magazine for a free item
Now some magazine give away free things to get people to buy them and I have decided that I will also do that with a free album.
So I did some research into what album cover look like on Google. Pop related on to fit into my theme of a pop magazine.
I went on paint and choose an image. You have to re-size the image so it looks the right size for an album that you buy at a shop. You re-size it to 50/50 to make it small enough.
Then you add the text with the text tool.
This is were you can change the font and colour of the text you want. I decided to go with pink and blue as I have used pink and blue im my magazine.
Logo making for my magazine
My logo which I have drawn out in illustrator. I want to include the radio in my magazine as it goes with the pop theme of my magazine and acts as a visual element for my target audience.
I decided that I wanted a logo on my magazine as it make the magazine look more professional if you have something like a logo which can be used as a brand later. To do this I had to crop the image on Photoshop
With the croped image I decided to make the background a pink colour as pink is my main theme colour in my magazine to attract to the female audience of my target audience.
As you can see I started of with this shade of pink but then I change it to the other shade of pink to have an effect that the logo was drawn on to oppose to just copy on.
Im thinking for my front cover and DPS I will make this image transparent as at the moment with the pink background it does not fit in with the image background I have and it doesn't look right.
Making my magazine 3
Alot has happen in the past few week. I had a little problem with my files that the magazine was on so the in-design was acting up. however I was able to overcome this by using a mac and starting the whole magazine again X3 all I have to say is that I hate macs there like using a map for the first time with no x and y points. Anyways I pulled through and have created a front page, contents and a DPS using the images from my photo-shoot.
Here is my contents page :) ok the font I know will not look like it stands out but being on the macs there was a problem with missing founts and the only one I was able to get back was orange juice but not opificio. I will have to change all the fonts when I go in for my last design lesson next week. so away from the fonts I like the way this page looks, its east to read and as you will see has consistence of colors that run throughout my magazine referring to my target audience of teenage girls. As you can see I have my logo which I said I would put in on the top right hand corner. I will talk about this in a later blog as I explain how I manage to get it there through photoshop.
To make this page better now that ive been looking at it for a while is that the top bit were I have the cover stories I should get rid of the lines and see what that looks like as at the moment it does make the contents page look less professional.
I decided to have my front cover on my contents page as I though it would help my readers find the articles that were on the front cover and I liked the idea that was in top of the pops magazine when they done this; so im following the conventions of them as if it works for them it will work for me. I have also notice that my target audience is not of a high age so the visual of having the front cover will also help younger readers to find and get engage with my magazine.
Here is my DPS which I tried to recreate from a top of the top magazine artificial but I have change some of the layout of my DPS so it works with my magazine. as you can see my first attempt on the top and my second one on the bottom.
the troubles I had here was with the arrangement of the article itself, as seen on the top image with the numbers every were which I sorted on the bottom image. I got rid of the numbers as looking at question and answer DPS in other magazine I seen that they don't have the numbers. by doing this I was able to make all the text look more even so the page wasn't a mess. I got rid of the speech bubble and move it to the other side as again this was making all the text go funny.
I move the text ''Leah pops into the charts cover story'' for the side to the top adding a blue border to make the headline stand out and I used this in my contented page so there is a consistency throughout my magazine. I have the title of my magazine and ''Question and answers page'' on the top of my page as when my readers are flicking through the pages they see this and go to the page. at the bottom of the page I have links to Facebook and twitter which morely so advertised my magazine. the pull quote which I have placed in my speech bubble is hinting at a free album that comes with my magazine which I couldn't put any were else in my magazine due to there wasn't any room. I have also moved one of the images a little to the left so you could see the page number 6 more easily.
I went on Facebook and I wanted to see what the public though of my magazine so far and what I could change which I will take on board and change in my next design lesson.
The front cover of my magazine. ok the font need to be change I know XD but I like the image and I can see that the font will work with the image that I have chosen for my front cover. i like the effect from my masthead that you can see the person hair through the masthead which looks cool. the logo of my magazine on the left of my masthead im thinking of making it transparent so it goes with my front cover a bit more than it dose now.

Looking more closely at my images
So choosing images to use in my magazine. I had to go though a lot of images to narrow it down to the images that im going to show u. First I went on social media such as Twitter and asked people which they liked. I then also went though them as well.
Right like this image as well she looks a lot more pop than my last model. there space around her where i will be able to place cover stories which is a good thing however there isn't that much room for a masthead unless I wanted to have the masthead overlapping some of her hair which might work with my orange juice font that I have.
This image would look great on a DPS as an image going across two pages. If I do this though I will have to go on photo-shop and sort out the background and make it white as when you look at the bottom of the image; as my model is holding her hands up she has stopped the light reaching the bottom of the image making it a bit shadowy.
This has to be my one of favorite image out of my photo-shoot. I like the depth of field effect that has happened with the mic being in focus along with the rest of the image. if I use this image I will have to photo-shop the background white and make her top go all the way down. I made her do this pose as I was thinking of my question and answer DPS and I wanted it to look like she was holding out the mic to see what the audience have to say.
I like this image there room above the head which allows room for the masthead and there also room on the left hand side of the image for the cover lines which is good as we read left to right. Again if I use this image I just have to make the back ground white on photo-shop. The pose she has I was going for a pop rock take on things.
This image if you remember is the same pose I had my other model do and I just wanted to see what effect it will look like if I have the model who looked more pop doing the same pose. well its ok I do have room for a masthead but I don't know if i like it that much to put on my front cover.
I took this pic as I wanted to get an image of her top and its was mainly to be used in my DPS or content page. I do like and im hoping that I can fit it in somewhere into my blog.
This image will work for my front cover if I have a good headline to go with it to explain why she looks sad. there enough room for a masthead and there room for cover-lines. I might use this as an album cover as im going to try and make a quick free album in my magazine. This is because in pop magazine there normally free stuff to get people to buy the magazine so I feel that it would appeal to my target audience.
I love this image XD but I don't think unless i use it in my front cover that I will be able to place the image any were. I was thinking DPS but I don't think the pose really fits into a question and answer.
This is another one of my favorite images and I will definitely using this somewhere in my magazine. mainly as the pose fits in with my headline ''Leah pops back into the charts''
Another DPS photo which will work. Maybe if the glasses were not covering her eyes so much then this image would be better. But the pose fits in with the question and answer theme. As it looks like she weighing up her options holding her hands out like that.
Another DPS I just wanted her to look like she was singing. I like it but I think its missing something.
I like how she looking directly at the audience as it grabs the readers attention and involves them more with the article but I think its not working with the mic being help up like that.
I like this image but somebody told me it looks like she about to fall over XD I think I can now see that and I still like it I might just have to adjust some angles and play around with this image.
This is a really good image as there is loads of room for a masthead. With the way her hand is held out I can maybe put a cover story or even the headline of the magazine there.
A quick update for my photoshoot
After missing my bus last thrusday and deadlines comeing up I had to say to my friend that I have to find someone eles for the photoshoot as today was the last day that I could get someone in and still have time to play around with the image. Instead I was able to find someone who could come in who was local to were the Tv studio was.
This has taken away some of the stress of getting somebody in as now I have the photos I can now start createing final drafts and final alterations.
This is Lea and she is to be on my front cover.
As you can see she looks the part more than the last girl which is a plus point for my magazine. This will also help with my magazine identity and to attract my target audience as Lea is the age of the target audience.

Yes photos from my photo-shoot
Here are the photos in my yes pile which I will look at more closely to deside which ones I want to use in my magazine.
Which you will see on my blog as I annoitate and explain why I did/ poses the model did.
The one thing that I would change about these photos is that I would of liked it if my model was wareing make- up this is because she looks less like a pop star without it. however the clothes she is wareing are better than the last model I had.
I will have to photoshops the backgrounds of the images to make all the backfrounds pure white in the places that the lights didn't manage to get into.
The no photos from my photoshoot
Ok so I finally got someone in to be in my photoshoot. Here are the images that I took which are in the no pile due the images; haveing techical issues with the lighing and shuttet speed. But also with the model blnking and the content of the image was not sutable for my genra of magazine.
The images with the techical promblems were taken at the beginning of the shoot which shows that I had to change the setting of the camera to the enrioment around it. This ment changesing the F stop and the shutter speed. however as I change the shutter speed faster to make the images not too exsposed; as the shutter was going to fast the image was half in darkness as the shutter closed before the lights were able to flash. This ment that I had to alter the setting again untill the setting was on F stop 4.5 and shutter speed 230.
I have put these bad images on my blog to show the progression and improvemnet from my pilimary task to my main magazine.

Drawen plans for my magazine
As you can see here I have drawn out plans for my magazine which will help me while making my magazine on indesign.
With the font page I have kept it simple to make it appealing to the eyes which will stand out more than haveing the font cover jam packed with articles. With the addition of the logo in the top right you can see the draft product on my blog. I am going to change the main image to the one I used in the draft however.
Here is my contents page which is the same as the one on my blog however I have added in my logo into the top hand corner and I would like to add on the bottom of the page a link to a facebook and a twitter page for the magazine. I decided to have this page look like this because I belive that it easy to read and has structure to it. I have used the idea from ''we love pop'' contents page as its works and would attract the intrest of the a teenage audience.
Here is my DPS which I want to use. From my DPS I want it to be a question and answers article. Were when I have the photoshoot I will ask question which will therefore be used for my DPS and some of her quotes will be used as pull qoutes. I will have to take 3 good images for my DPS which I will have a white background to go with the white background.
Here is a plan that I have created for all the diffrent pages that I will have in my magazine.
- Front Page
- Contence Page
- Behind the scence with Katy Perry
- what Jessie J did next

Looking at DPS to get ideas for my DPS
From doing some research I am hoping to get some ideas for my Double page spread. I have made sure that all the Double page spreads that I look at fit in with my theme of pop.
(Glamour magazine)Here is a DPS of Alexandra Burke which as you can see the page is split into two with the image of her on the left and the writing on the right. this makes sense as we read from left to right so having the text on the right makes it easy for us to read. in the top right hand corner we have a pug with ''coming soon'' written there which acts as a attraction to when your flicking through the magazine and you see that in the corner you are drawn to it, to find out more. With the image being a full page with hardly any text around her make us forces more on her and she becomes the pin point of the article. the use of pink with the pull quotes makes them stand out on the white background and appeals to the female audience. in the bottom right hand corner we have the web-sight for the magazine and the logo.
Now im not saying this is a bad DPS, I just feel for my magazine I don't think its fits in right with my theme of pop. As its too structure and looks to aimed at a higher target audience than my 11-21 year old females. however there are some element in which I will take away from this and use in my DPS. such as the page furniture and the pink fount for the pull quotes.
(Top of the pops magazine)Here is another DPS but with pixie lot. Now this has a different
design in the way its set out to the last one as there more pictures but less
text. Now this DPS focus the idea of having a question and answers which is
something that I am interested to do on my DPS as this allows me to interview
my model when I take the images in the photo-shoot. I like how there lots of
page furniture on the page as it grabs people attention however I know that
some people may find this off-putting and not read the page. I like how the
background is not white and is a nice contrast with the colours of the founts
and images used. The main image which is on the left fills the full page which
shows that she is the main point of the article. With the secondary images they
just add to the page design which works well. I like how one of the secondary
images is in an old photography style that you get when using the old cameras
which is something that I want to try in my DPS. In the top corner there is a
puff that links you to the album that she has made which I think is a good
synergy with the product placement.
Over all I like the style of this magazine and will defiantly
use some of the ideas presented here in my DPS. I also took away some of the
poses that Pixie Lott uses as one of the problems that I had with my last
photo- shoot was that I didn't know which poses to make my model do.
(pop magazine)This is an interesting DPS which I like the idea of having
the main image spread across the two pages with the text hugging around the
image making the image the vocal point of the magazine. The drop cap I think grabbed
my attention when I was looking for DPS for ideas which is why I could include
a drop- cap in my magazine. Again the background colour works well with the
image and appeals to the female audience which is something that I should
consider when choosing a background colour for my magazine instead of using
white.
This magazine ok and I will be experimenting with the main
image across the two pages as I like how I can make the text wrap round the
image. It all depends on what images I take in the photo-shoot.
(Q magazine) This article is about Lady Gaga which the drop caps over the
text on the right. Now this is an interesting idea but I feel that it cover the
text making it harder to read but draws attention to Lady Gaga. The main image
again is on the left filling the page.
I took away from this the difference ways that people use
drop caps and that the image I take in my photo-shoots has to be big enough to
fill the page.
(Now magazine) This DPS has the main image not across the DPS but near the
middle of the two pages. This acts as a separate of the two pages. From this
along the top there are multiple images of the main person but in black and
white which I think gives off a nice effect in juxtaposition with the colour
main image. Under the image there is lines which gives a sense of structure to
the magazine which make the DPS look professional. The pull quote is next to
the image and even though it’s not wrapped in text it’s still stands out next
to the image. They have used a white background; which allows the hints of
colour that are on the page to stand out more on the page.
I like this DPS it has a clear structure and looks appealing
to the eyes which is something that I want to create with my magazine. I think
I will take away the use of the lines under the image to separate the page with
my DPS as it will make my DPS look professional.
(i love pop magazine) Last but not least I have a DPS of Beyoncé apparently
dressing like Lady Gaga. I picked this one out as this DPS uses boxes to separate
the different sections of the article. There are many images on this page which
makes it hard to know which one is the main image, but you can tell that it’s BeyoncĂ©
as she the biggest image on the DPS. The background is black which makes the
pink stand out than the white would of.
I got form this the heading of the article as its big and is
a pull quote which brings up the ambiguity of what the article is going to be
about. I like the use of the boxes but I don't think I will be using them in my
article as I think it just looks messy on the page and is more aged at a
younger audience.
