final magazines
Final magazines
Front page
This is my final version of my front page and I think it works well as it really appeals to my target audience with the font color but also we know that the magazine is aimed at Durham itself with the help of the image of Durham Cathedral which is a main icon of Durham.
Advert page /2 page
This is my final draft of my advert page which is promoting a restaurant in my local college which is in Peterlee which is part of Durham again reinforcing that regional identity of Durham in my magazine to the audience.
Contents page/ 3 page
My final content page which I think works with all the other pages I have using the same fonts and color scheme to help with the femauriality of the magazine. its cut into different section which follow the convention of other regional magazine and makes it easy for readers to find the article that they want to read.
Article/ 4 page
My final article page which fits in again to appealing to my target audience being upper middle class aspirational females. again linking back into the regional identity of the magazine doing an interview with a shop owner in Durham.
Billboard advert
Final billboard advert which is easy to read and follows the convention of other billboards by having not that much writing there and forcing more on the image. as its more on the brand name that sells the product in this case with my magazine ''Durham''

Development of my radio add
For my radio add I decided to ask Susan Jinxs to see if she would record my radio add. I made her read all the radio scrips I've done to see which out of the 3 I liked and over all I liked the 3rd script out of the rest.
I decided to ask her as she is a professional voice actor for radio add's, plus she is female which would appeal to my target demographic of upper middle classes. I had to cut the third radio scrip out of the other two she did as she recoded all 3 scrips on one go. I had to use the tool ''Catch playhead'' to cut the track
From getting my recording I then went on the program Garage band to edit and add special effects to my add's. Some of the special effects I used where
- Sweet Strummer 02.1- For the ambiance and backing music which I had loop all the way through the add however I choose this as it can be related to Durham as a motif to the people who play guitars in the Durham city centre.
- Foyer_1.2- I needed a sound which sounded like there was a crowd of people and this seem to fit in nicely with the sound I wanted but also with the voice over from the recoding I did earlier.
- I did have a third sound which was File folder but this just didn't really work that well as I wanted a sound which sounded like a magazine was being turned when the person said ''packed with art, theatre, food and cinema'' to mimic that she was flicking through the magazine at the time; reading out the different heading in the magazine. So I recorded myself turing a magazine and placed that sound file in.
- On the program it allowed me to change things like the sound of each sound file by using ''enable automation'' which let me place dots on the sound file which then let me play around with bring the sound higher and then gradually lower as the file plays. This help with making some of the sound effect fade out instead of the sound stopping suddenly; which overall sounded a lot better to the listener.

Development of ideas for a radio advert script.
Development of ideas for a radio advert script.
Now instead of just talking directly to the audience we could have some scenarios which might help promote the magazine such as.
person ''well have you checked out the Durham magazine, the regional magazine which shows you what's been happening in the hustle and bustle in Durham every month. with this guild you can find lots of interesting things to do''
person 1 ''hay fancy hanging out this weekend at this new café?''
person 2 ''how do you find out about these new places all the time''
person 1 ''well you see I get the Durham magazine, which is a local magazine which keeps me in the loop of all the hustle and bustle that happens every month, here maybe you should give it a look''
person 2 ''oh wow I didn't know that was opening, where do you find this?''
person 1 '' at exclusive retailers and venues''
Now these ideas are good but they might be a little bit childish for my target age group being aimed at upper middleclass females.

Looking more closely into radio adds for magazine I found this one from the ''Local Biz Magazine'' which from the add Is a Durham region magazine which has listing about all the events that happen in Durham.
http://thelocalbizmagazine.ca/
The add length for a radio add is around 40-60 seconds which is something I need to consider when making my radio add to fit in with conventions of radio adds.
- The add uses emotive language like rich, hot which really sell this magazine and the content of Durham being the go to place to go for a family day out.
- Uses upbeat music along with a friendly and happy voice really makes you want to find out more about the magazine as it construct an idea of Durham.
Final development of my article
Final development of my article
With my article, As I made the different colour codes in the content page I had to add the page tabs in the top of the page this being under the ''hot topic'' section.
I made the image of the shoes smaller and made a border around it to allow the text to wrap around the image a bit better.
I also made the lines less thicker and made the two middle lines smaller so that there was less of a box feel to the article page.
In the pull quote that I have I made all the text centre so that it looked neater in the shape.
Final development of my Content page
For my final development of my content page for my regional magazine I have included boxes around my heading this not only makes them stand out but also when you turn to the page under each section at the top of page should be a little box with a different colour which indicates the different section.
I also changed the email address to make it more uniformed with the product of the durham magazine. also with the bottom of the page got rid of the extra lines so; which makes it less box like.
Played around with the colours on the colour schemes looking for a colour which wasn't so bold and in your face. I found that using the pastel colours really worked well but also it would appeal to my target audience as its quite girly.
made all the lines less thicker to help make the feel of the page looking like a box less.
In the end I went with he blue/grey colour background as it allowed all the text to stand out on the page.

First drafts of my regional magazine radio adds
- Duration: 10- (a bit to short for a radio add as the convention for a normal add is around 40-60 seconds.)
Now with this add its
straight to the point and doesn’t really engage with the audience that well but
as a good point it dose tell the listener the important information.
As
the guy I got to read the script read the scrip way to fast so that its a bit
hard to understand.
- Duration: 19 sec
This is like the first add
I did however the guy reading the scrip read the scrip a bit slower which did
make the duration time slightly longer.
- Duration: 31 secs
The guy also in this one
that I liked was that with the script he put some emphasis to some of the words so that it sounded more like someone selling something to someone who just reading something.
The only problem is that
the person that I got to read out the scrip read the script really fast so when
I get the final version I will find someone who reads the scripts slower.
For my final radio add I’m
going to have a female read the script out as this will help with the idea that
the magazine is aimed at a female audience. I'm also going to have the actor
act enthusiastic when she reads out the scrip to really sell the magazine. I’m
also going to edit the voice file and put some background music which fits in
with the add and is recognized for the Durham area.
